Perhaps you have seen them on the legs of elderly people who are not so much concerned with their appearance that they should actually hide them. Or, perhaps you saw them as part of a Halloween costume. Wherever you have seen them before, you are seeing them now in a far more direct place – your leg.

Specifically, you have spider veins, and you have no idea where they came from. You can detect the presence of spider veins immediately, because they are thin, scraggly red veins that resemble the roads on a map. No matter how easily distinguishable their appearance might be, it is important to know where exactly they came from.

Spider veins, though most commonly attributed to older people, can actually materialize in younger women after their pregnancy. This is because of two factors, the first being the change in hormones, and the second being in terms of weight gain having put pressure on the legs to such an extent that it affects the circulation.

Speaking of circulation, if you are aware of the way that the heart pumps blood, then you know that all of the veins in the legs help to keep the circulation going. When pressure is put on a vein for an extended period of time, the blood within that vein starts to pool, and that is how spider veins come to be. They usually appear on the legs or upper thighs, but can also occur on the face. These veins can definitely be treated by sclerotherapy or laser therapy.
